The Senior Academy starts hybrid into the summer semester

On Wednesday, April 13, 2022, starting at 2:30 p.m., the Senior Academy of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) will be calling for an "active start to the new semester". This returns to the Senftenberg campus with classroom events. At the same time, interested parties can continue to follow the lectures online.

For the 2022 summer semester, the academic director and the managing director of the BTU's Center for Continuing Academic Education (ZWW), Prof. Dr. Silke Michalk, and Heike Bartholomäus welcome the participants to Lecture Hall 11.103 of the Konrad Zuse Media Center. The kick-off event will be sporty, in compliance with 3G regulations. The first speaker is Catharina Buchenau from the university's central institution for university sports. In her lecture, she will focus on exercise and sporting activity - and not just in theory.

Subsequently, current and interesting lectures by BTU scientists, but also by external speakers, are on the program of the Senior Academy every Wednesday between 2:30 and 4 pm. The spectrum of topics ranges from energy saving to virtual reality and practical mathematics projects in Lusatia to opinion manipulation on the Internet and green hydrogen. Participants learn what Albert Camus' work "The Plague" has to tell us in the current crisis and what role elders play in structural change. They learn about technologies to increase mining safety and find out how a digital factory works at the Efficient Factory Center on the Senftenberg campus. An excursion will take the seniors to Cottbus central station, where they can try out toolbot, an automated rental system for power tools, for themselves. The highlight at the end of the semester on July 13 will be a lecture by Senftenberg Mayor Andreas Fredrich on democracy and local politics.

"This diverse program of the Senior Academy also demonstrates the breadth of the range of subjects offered by our BTU," emphasizes ZWW Managing Director Heike Bartholomäus. "We are very pleased that we can thus once again be experienced on the Senftenberg campus. We cordially invite all senior* citizens interested in scientific topics to join us in the lecture hall or online and contribute their suggestions."

Background With the Senior Academy lecture series at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, the Center for Continuing Academic Education and its senior assistant Annekathrin Rössel support all interested seniors in lifelong learning.
