We celebrate Europe! We celebrate EUNICE!

On the occasion of the founding day of the European Union, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is initiating the "European Universities Week" between the 5th and 12th of May 2022. The BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg is participating with a colourful programme.

After the founding of the Council of Europe on the 5th of May 1949, the Schuman Declaration on the 9th of May 1950 was the first concrete plan for the creation of a European Community. Today, Robert Schuman's visionary speech is commemorated every year on Europe Day, the 9th of May, in the spirit of peace and unity in Europe. To celebrate this day, the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg will be hosting a variety of activities related to Europe over several days.

The main focus of the theme week is the „European University for Customised Education“ EUNICE, to which the BTU has belonged since autumn 2020. European universities are transnational university alliances that convey European values and strengthen the European identity of university members.
Initiated and funded by the European Commission, these higher education institutions also serve to consolidate the European Higher Education Area.

The patron of the theme week is the Federal Minister of Education and Research, Bettina Stark-Watzinger.

Background information EUNICE

The BTU forms the European University Alliance EUNICE (European UNIversity for Customised Education) with the University of Cantabria (Spain), the University of Catania (Italy), the University of Mons (Belgium), the Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France (France), the University of Vaasa (Finland) and the Poznań University of Technology (Poland). What all partner universities have in common is that they tend to be located away from the urban centres of their respective countries. As a network, the universities face extensive challenges, including the recruitment of students as well as staff, but at the same time offer diverse opportunities for all stakeholders due to structural change.

EUNICE is focused on solving social and economic problems - both globally and locally. With a clear vision for the future, the alliance strives to achieve multiple goals: In addition to customised and flexible education, the shaping of a European identity and close cooperation with the regional economy are of great importance to the consortium. As a European university, the Alliance is funded by the EU and receives up to €5 million from the Erasmus+ programme and up to €2 million from the Horizon 2020 programme for a period of three years to implement its plans.
