Lecture series "Refugee Migration - Basics and Current Challenges".

Martin Vesely from Opferperspektive Brandenburg will speak on "Racism as a Dimension of Right-Wing Violence in the City of Cottbus and in the State of Brandenburg - A Stocktaking".

Since 2017, the Geflüchteten Netzwerk Cottbus (GNC) and the BTU Department of "Sociology for Social Work" have been cultivating critical conversations on issues of flight and migration, racism and diversity, empowerment and self-determination. In the summer semester of 2022, they jointly invite you for the first time to an interdisciplinary lecture series:

Refugee Migration - Foundations and Current Challenges.

Since 2015 at the latest, the massiveness and the number of right-wing violent crimes in Brandenburg increased sharply. Specialized counseling centers recorded significant increases, especially in racially motivated attacks. Especially in Cottbus and the surrounding counties, a special situation arose, as the increase in right-wing violence was accompanied by large racist street mobilizations. The lecture attempts - based on historical considerations - to take stock from today's perspective.

Martin Vesely has been working since 2015 at the Brandenburg-based specialized counseling center for victims of right-wing violence, Opferperspektive - Solidarisch gegen Rassismus, Diskriminierung und rechte Gewalt e.V.. His work also focuses on the historical examination of National Socialism, remembrance and commemoration policies. He is part of the initiative Cottbus '92.
