Appeal for donations for the earthquake victims
Prof. Gesine Grande, President of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, says on behalf of the university: "We are deeply shocked to see the harrowing images in the news. The many deaths, the destruction and the hardship of the people in Turkey and Syria can hardly be put into words and leave us stunned. We convey our sincere sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims. We especially feel for our international students who are worried or grieving for their relatives and friends back home. Many of our staff and students are helping with donations, and many are supporting relief efforts."
The death toll has already risen to more than 40,000 after the disaster. The images and reports in the media show the great distress of the people on the ground, who are injured and fear for their relatives and friends in the freezing cold. The scale of the destruction is unspeakably great and the chance of recovering survivors is increasingly dwindling. The situation in the affected region in the south of Turkey and in the north of Syria makes us deeply concerned.
Many citizens are already helping with donations, and organizations are providing support on the ground. We also want to make our contribution. We ask all BTU members to help with donations. You can be part of it, too!
Below you will find various options. If you have further information and/or ideas, please let us know. We will keep you informed.
