Culture and Transformation in Lusatia

How can cultural education, art and culture support participation processes in the transformation region of Lusatia? What role do positive future scenarios from utopian stories or images play in this? The conference asks about the potential of aesthetic practice and utopian thinking within the transformation of Lusatia. What can the future of the region look like from the perspective of art and culture?

The two-day event begins with keynote lectures on the topic of "Utopia, Art and Cultural Education in the Transformation":

Ulrike Kremeier, Director Brandenburg State Museum of Modern Art, Cottbus: "Art and Transformation: In Search of (Lost) Utopias?"

Prof. Dr. Ute Schlegel-Pinkert, Berlin University of the Arts, Theatre Education: "Transformation and Cultural Education".

V-Prof. Dr. Julia Binder, BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, Department of Regional Planning: "Transformation and Space: The Utopian Potential of Digital Pioneers".

The event will then draw possible "futures" for Lusatia in panel discussions, workshops and with films. Other participants include Brigitte Faber-Schmidt (Head of the Department of Culture in the Ministry of Science, Research and Culture of the State of Brandenburg), Michael Apel (Board Member of the Creative Lusatia Association), Sandra Junghardt (Project Manager, Platform for Cultural Education Brandenburg) and Dr. Johannes Staemmler (Social Scientist, BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg).

The conference is organised by the Department of Cultural and Media Education at the Institute of Social Work of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg and Media to Be (M2B) e. V.

The conference is funded by the Partnerships for Democracy of the district of Spree-Neiße and the city of Cottbus as part of the federal programme "Live Democracy!" of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.

The training day is aimed at teachers, social work professionals, educators, artists, students and anyone else who is interested.
