Passing the baton in vocational training at the BTU

The new training year began on September 1, and this is also the case at the Brandenburg University of Technology. Three young women will be working at the Information, Communication and Media Centre (IKMZ) for the next three years. Almost at the same time, just one day earlier, three others received their certificates as administrative assistants.

Lilly Höchsmann and Nina Ruscher are training to become media and information services assistants in the university library, and Isabelle Grätz has opted for vocational training as a media designer for images and sound in the multimedia center. During their professional training, they will often be seen on campus. Even though all three have their place of work at the IKMZ, they can expect quite different tasks and many new experiences. Media and information services specialists are needed in the library, where information and knowledge is provided for students, teachers, researchers and interested parties. Media design has a lot to do with the production of photos, videos, sound recordings, but also with their editing and management. From specific perspectives, the trainees gain very practical, individual insights into different areas of the university. They learn the theoretical basics at the Louise Schröder School in Berlin (media and information services specialist) or at the Oberstufenzentrum Technik Teltow (media designer).

Sophie Vogel, Carina Wolter and Johanna Müller already have their vocational qualifications as administrative assistants in the bag. All three began their vocational training on September 1, 2020, and were part of the first cohort in this profession at the BTU. Just a few days ago, they received their certificates after successfully completing their training. Johanna Müller was also honored as one of 14 graduates* who completed their training with a grade of 1. Five of them - including Johanna Müller - even achieved a 1.0.

While the prospective administrative assistants at the BTU learn in practical areas such as the Admissions and Registrar's Office, Accounting, the Legal Department or Human Resources Administration, the theoretical basics are taught at the Oberstufenzentrum II Spree-Neiße in Cottbus.

The ceremonial presentation of certificates took place in the Schützenhaus in Beeskow. The certificates were presented by the Niederlausitzer Studieninstitut für kommunale Verwaltung (NLSI), which is responsible for the proper implementation of the training and is the body responsible for conducting the intermediate and final examinations. Carina Wolter will stay on as an employee, Johanna Müller has decided to study and Sophie Vogel has decided to work outside the BTU.

In June, our IT specialists - system integration Sascha Hecht and Franz Noak already successfully completed their vocational training. Since then, Sascha Hecht has been working as a staff member in the User Services department, while Franz Noak has taken up employment outside the BTU.

A specialist for media and information services also successfully completed her vocational training this summer. Victoria Koch has been working at the university library in Senftenberg since July.

We wish our new trainees a good start at the BTU and all the best for their new phase of life. We are pleased to be able to accompany them. We wish our graduates every success in their future careers and hope that they will look back fondly on their professional training at the BTU!
