Semester start of the SeniorenAkademie with the mayor of the city of Senftenberg

When the Vice-President for Academic Affairs of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) Prof. Dr. Peer Schmidt opens the winter semester of the SeniorenAkademie at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, he will be able to welcome Andreas Pfeiffer, Mayor of Senftenberg, as the officer of a special lecture.

The mayor does not miss the opportunity to kick off the lecture series, which has been popular for many years, in the large lecture theatre of the Konrad Zuse Media Center. He takes the seniors on a journey into the world of the 'wolves in Lusatia' and brings his perspective as a veterinarian and also as a politician into the current debate on this topic.

The winter semester of the SeniorenAkademie promises a total of 17 events with a broad spectrum of captivating questions from the most diverse fields of knowledge. Interested seniors from the region and beyond are welcome to attend every Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Konrad Zuse Media Center.

Until March, the multifaceted semester program includes exciting topics from BTU scientists as well as from external speakers. Together, the participants will explore virtual realities, deal with the changing energy costs due to the climate crisis, or discuss cultural education in the transformation region of Lusatia. Health aspects are also in focus. The results of the survey of senior citizens throughout the state of Brandenburg will also be discussed: How can we shape a society of long life?

The SeniorenAkademie can be part of such a design.
"We are aware of the important role of older adults and feel their efficiency, creativity and innovative power. We hope that with our diverse program at the SeniorenAkademie, we can provide one or two ideas for this group, which is becoming ever stronger in society," emphasizes Heike Bartholomäus, managing director of the Centre for Continuing Education at the BTU. "We are very happy that we can be experienced on the Campus Senftenberg. We cordially invite all interested seniors to join us in the lecture theatre or online to gain valuable insights and engage in exciting discussions."
