Heinz - Ludwig - Horney - Prizes awarded for outstanding bachelor theses

The Institute of Environmental Engineering and Recycling Senftenberg e.V. (IURS) has honored the achievements of Philip Kesler and Johann Malte Hübner in completing their Bachelor's degree at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) with the Heinz - Ludwig - Horney - Prize.

Johann Malte Hübner completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Chemistry at the Faculty of Natural Sciences. His bachelor's thesis on "Electrochemical characterization of materials in lithium-ion batteries" at the Chair of Physical Chemistry was supervised by Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil. Jörg Acker.

Philip Kesler studied at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Energy Systems and graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering. His bachelor's thesis on "Changing the material feed on a drying system - increasing energy efficiency through intelligent material guidance" at the Chair of Tool Making Machines was supervised by Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Sylvio Simon.

The award ceremony took place during the annual meeting of the IURS e.V. on December 5, 2023 in the presence of the BTU Chancellor Robert Denk.

The Institute for Environmental Technology and Recycling Senftenberg e.V. (IURS) has awarded the Heinz - Ludwig - Horney - Prize annually since 2004 for bachelor theses that support the goals of the association in a special way.
With this prize, the IURS commemorates the achievements of Prof. Dr. Heinz-Ludwig Horney, founding dean of the Mechanical Engineering department at the Lausitz University of Applied Sciences, who died in 2010 at the age of 83 in his home town of Bochum.
The IURS was founded in 1997 in order to reduce the great pent-up demand for scientific and technical research and consulting facilities in the field of Environmental and Process Technology in the south of Brandenburg. The institute, which currently has more than 40 members - current and former members of BTU as well as companies - is based at the university's Senftenberg site. It deals with environmental research and application-oriented technological research and development, assessment and consulting and has already produced numerous innovations and patents as well as realized projects.
