Prof. Ivan Ndip honoured with the IMAPS Outstanding Educator Award 2024

The International Microelectronics Assembly and Packaging Society (IMAPS), the world's largest association for the promotion of microelectronics and assembly and packaging technologies, has honoured Ivan Ndip, Chair of Antennas and High Frequency System Integration at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU).

With the IMAPS Outstanding Educator Award 2024, the association, which has more than 10,000 members and is organised into national chapters, recognised the scientist's outstanding contribution to education and training in microelectronic packaging.
He was presented with the prestigious award at the 57th International Symposium on Microelectronics, which took place in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, in October 2024. Former IMAPS President and board chairperson of the award committee Dr Beth Keser presented him with the award.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Ivan Ndip heads the Chair of Antennas and High Frequency System Integration, which was founded in February 2023, at BTU's Cottbus main campus.
He is also Head of Department at the Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration (IZM) in Berlin and Head of the IZM branch office in Cottbus.

For more than 15 years, Professor Ndip has made an outstanding contribution to the education of university students and the training of engineers and scientists in packaging technology.

Professor Ndip currently teaches on the Master's degree programs in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Micro- & Nanoelectronics, Artificial Intelligence Engineering and Business Administration and Engineering at BTU. In his current seminars at BTU, he provides students with a solid theoretical and practical foundation for a successful career in science and industry.
Back in 2008, he developed and taught the first courses at the University of Technology Berlin, which focussed on signal integrity, power integrity and electromagnetic compatibility of packaging technologies in Microelectronics Systems. In laboratory courses, he introduced students to the practical aspects of electromagnetic modelling and high-frequency measurement technology. He taught the courses for eleven years and helped students prepare for a scientific career in Microelectronics or packaging technology.

Professor Ndip has supervised, advised and mentored over a hundred Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral students. He has also taught hundreds of engineers and scientists in Professional Development Courses for more than 15 years. His outstanding publications and inventions are used worldwide in the education of university students and in the training of professionals in Microelectronics.

Short biography

Ivan Ndip is a professor at the Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU). The aim of his chair, Antennas and Radio Frequency System Integration, is to contribute innovative solutions for the development of future radio frequency systems, in particular for mobile, satellite and space communications, radar and proximity sensors, as well as for high performance computing and artificial intelligence.
Ivan Ndip has also worked at Fraunhofer IZM since 2000, where he currently heads the RF & Smart Sensor Systems department in Berlin and the IZM branch office for Radio Frequency Sensors and High-Speed Systems in Cottbus. During his time at Fraunhofer IZM, he was also a lecturer at the University of Technology Berlin from 2008 to 2019.

He is author and co-author of more than 250 publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings and holds more than 35 German, European and US patents. His research has been honoured with numerous national and international awards.
Professor Ndip is a Fellow and Life Member of IMAPS and Senior Member of IEEE. From 2016 to 2020, he served as a Director on the Board of IMAPS.

He studied Electrical Engineering and received his Dipl.-Ing. and Dr.-Ing. degrees with distinction (summa cum laude) from TU Berlin in 2002 and 2006 respectively. In 2017, he received his second doctorate, Dr.-Ing. habil., also in Electrical Engineering, from BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg.
