Lecture series: "Being old, so what? - Environmental protection suits every age"
We cordially invite you to the second event of the lecture series "Alterperimentale"
Being old, so what? - Environmental protection suits every age
The lecture by Prof. Dr Hubert Weiger followed by a panel discussion with Ulrike Blumensath-Streidt (Managing Director of PZBN Cottbus) and Annegreth Huth (Head of PraxisForschungsStelle Heinersdorf) will be moderated by Dr Maria Reinisch (Managing Director of the Association of German Scientists).
Environmental and nature conservation concerns us all - regardless of age. Nature is the basis of our existence and is vital for the life and survival of mankind. It is therefore important to show how we can influence nature and our environment, how we can protect it on a small and large scale and also how much joy this can bring, both individually and as part of a community.
Prof. Dr Hubert Weiger has dedicated his life to protecting nature and the environment. He has been committed to nature for over 50 years, as one of the founders of BUND and as its long-standing board chairperson, as a scientist and lecturer in nature conservation and sustainable land use at the University of Kassel, as well as a member of numerous expert committees and an active member of civil society. In his lecture, he will take us through five decades of environmental protection, explain the fascination of nature and what we can do to protect it with joy and what a key role older people play in this.
Afterwards, Ulrike Blumensath-Streidt and Annegreth Huth and the moderator Dr Maria Reinisch will talk about how and what people of all ages can contribute to preserving the environment, how this can be combined with education and care work and, above all, what "young" can learn from "old".
Between February 2025 and June 2026, the lecture series will offer a total of six exciting events on the topic of ageing for the interested public. It is part of the T!Raum project "Alterperimentale" and is being organised in cooperation with the Association of German Scientists (VDW).
