Diverse BTU programme for the Senftenberg Open Day

The Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) will be presenting over 40 programme items to experience, discover and participate in when it helps to organise the Senftenberg Open Day on Saturday, 24 May 2025, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

After last year's successful premiere, the Senftenberg university campus is now one of the three central locations for the event, alongside the city centre around the market square and the city harbour. A free shuttle service provides regular connections. In total, more than 120 companies, associations and institutions will be opening their doors.

The BTU programme is an important part of both the training tour and the children's tour. Once again, there will be a wide range of offers for all age groups, from information about studying at the BTU in Cottbus and Senftenberg, including dual study opportunities, open laboratories, experiments and campus tours to sports activities. Admission is free.

The majority of the programme items can be experienced throughout the day, while some are offered at fixed times. Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., for example, there will be insights into the primary school teaching study programme. Between 2 and 4 p.m., the Children's University will focus on first aid in emergency situations, and the Open Lab on the immune system will be open to the public at the same time. Alumni campus tours will start at 11:15 and 14:00 at the Konrad Zuse Media Centre.

The foyer of the Media Centre (Building 11) will be the central point of contact for visitors, especially prospective students, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the starting point for exploring the campus.
Scientists await interested guests in their laboratories - for example in Nursing and Midwifery Sciences, in Therapy Sciences and in the Chair of Stem Cell Biology. In the Biotechnology research building, interested visitors can take a look inside the body by examining blood under a microscope, familiarise themselves with "Microbiology live and in colour" and "Fungi for us in action". Exciting hands-on experiments on the topic of "The Fascination of Chemistry" will introduce visitors to the Angewandte Chemie study programme. There will also be insights into current research. The demonstrations in the high-voltage laboratory provide a thrilling experience.

From robots in action to 3D chocolate printing
Humanoid robots and mini robot dogs can be experienced live under the heading "Robotics you can touch". The VR drone flight takes you up high, and you can also immerse yourself virtually in study programmes and familiarise yourself with the creation of a laboratory. The remote-controlled prototype of an e-Muli will be presented - used as a child-friendly electric mini-train for younger guests. In medical technology, orthoses are 3D printed. The Lausitz Dynamics student team will be presenting its latest energy-saving vehicle, which will be competing in the Shell Eco-marathon Europe in neighbouring Poland in June. The "MINT motivation campaign" will also be presented. Visitors can pedal for a smoothie at the Senftenberg Open Day, and 3D chocolate printing will be on offer.

Tours of the BTU's on-site library, including the "Library of Things", are offered every hour on the hour. You can also visit the "Ingeniously creative!" exhibition, in which library staff show pictures and self-designed exhibits. There will be small games to try out and a fitness check for young and old in the sports hall.
GA Generic Assays GmbH offers half-hourly company tours and laboratory visits in the innovation centre located in the immediate vicinity of the campus.

NABU Senftenberg will be a guest on the BTU campus with an information stand on the subject of water and a highlight for children: fun and exercise in the water running ball pool will ensure an unforgettable experience. Stadtwerke Senftenberg, Kommunale Wohnungsgesellschaft Senftenberg and the Partnership for Democracy in the district of Oberspreewald-Lausitz will be represented with information stands in the media centre.

Students and the Lausitzer Biotech e.V. will be providing refreshments in front of buildings 14 and 15, as well as delicious food from the canteen
