Reading from the book "99 Future Objects from Lusatia"
On 17 June 2025 at 2:30 pm, BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg cordially invites you to a book reading and presentation of the work "99 Future Objects from Lusatia". The event will take place in the inner courtyard of Teaching Building 10.
Editor Dr Johannes Staemmler will present his book, which offers a special view of the future of Lusatia. Anyone who wants to understand Lusatia will not be able to grasp it in a single conversation or during a holiday. Only over time does an impression condense that differs from person to person. And yet, reports, television programmes and newspaper articles often refer to Lusatia as an energy region, an eastern province, a settlement area for the Sorbs and Wends, a Nazi stronghold, a lignite mining area and a peripheral region. These attributions are just as right as they are wrong, as they function through painful simplification and catch on with those who cannot counter them with their own experiences.
This book offers a different perspective: what do people say when they are asked to talk about their future and the future of Lusatia on the basis of a single object? This question is complex, because it is about talking about a time that has not yet been experienced. Which objects will be tangible and relevant for the future? From grasping to grasping - it's about letting the imagination run wild and spinning a thread into the future. We can grasp what makes our lives good, and we can grasp things that contribute to this. We attribute some of these things to the quality of still being part of our lives tomorrow.
In addition to Dr Staemmler, some of the people involved in the book will also be present to share their perspectives. This will provide a good opportunity to enter into dialogue and discuss possible future scenarios. The event is open to all interested parties. You are cordially invited to bring friends and family. It is best if you take care of the catering yourself: Simply bring coffee and cake and enjoy the reading in a convivial atmosphere. If the weather is unfavourable, there is the option of moving the event to a covered room.
Further information about the book and the project can be found here.
We look forward to your participation in this special event and to interesting discussions about the future of Lusatia!
