International students explore the BTU during trial studies

As part of the BIDS project, school pupils from Poland, Romania and Turkey took part in the trial study programme and got to learn about different degree programmes at the BTU.

Whether by plane, train, minibus or car, on 7 July 2025, 28 school pupils from Poland, Romania and Turkiye arrived in Cottbus and Senftenberg to find out more about the study opportunities available here during a trial study programme. The Economics, Law and Social Sciences programme attracted a great deal of interest. Several students also took part in events organised by the Mechanical Engineering and Energy Systems as well as Architecture, Civil Engineering and Urban Planning departments. One participant commuted from Cottbus to Senftenberg to gain an insight into studying health sciences.

After an opening event with the International Relations Office, the school pupils started their subject-specific programmes and attended lectures, presentations and tours of laboratories and studios. During the barbecue on Tuesday evening, some of the Romanian participants got to know pupils from Cottbus and were able to talk to them about their experiences and plans for the future. The city tour was also received with great interest.

In conversation with Romanian participants, they expressed their enthusiasm for the BTU: "I really like it at the BTU university. I'm from Romania and our universities don't have as many activities and opportunities as BTU. I like that there are many different activities, including sports classes and different equipment that students can use for their studies. It's very cool! I think BTU gives a lot of opportunities to the students!"

In the framework of the "Support Initiative of German Schools Abroad and Partner Schools" (BetreuungsInitiative Deutscher Auslands- und PartnerSchulen) funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg cooperates with schools of the PASCH initiative in Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Turkiye. Supporting the participation of PASCH pupils in the trial studies is an integral part of the programme.
