Prof. Hirschl heads accompanying research for the "Energy transition and society" funding priority

The project, called BEWEGT, pursues two strategic goals: Firstly, the project team wants to bring the research projects in the Energy Transition and Society funding area into dialogue with each other and increase the visibility of the projects and their results. Secondly, BEWEGT aims to increase the impact of these projects in politics and society in order to help accelerate the energy transition.
BEWEGT is jointly carried out by the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) and the Institute for Ecological Economy Research (IÖW) and is jointly managed by Prof. Karoline Rogge (ISI) and Prof. Dr Bernd Hirschl (IÖW and BTU).
"With BEWEGT, we are pursuing a systemic perspective that integrates technological and social aspects. After all, the energy transition is not only a technological task, but also a social one. The collaboration between the IÖW and Fraunhofer ISI brings together decades of expertise on the energy transition. Our goal is to advance the energy transition further and in a socially responsible manner," says the IÖW research field manager and professor for "Management of Regional Energy Supply Structures" at the Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU) Cottbus-Senftenberg.

The project will run for four years. On 8 October 2025, the BEWEGT team introduced itself to the projects at an online kick-off. A kick-off conference will take place in Berlin in spring 2026.
