BTU Children's University asks "What to do with our plastic waste?"

How is plastic made? What would life be like without plastic? What happens to our plastic waste? Are there other ways to produce plastic without harming our environment? During the event, the children get to know CARBI, the carbon atom. CARBI explains what plastic is and what we can do with our plastic waste.

The speaker will be Prof. Dr Roh Pin Lee, who heads the BTU's Chair of Decarbonisation and Industrial Transformation.

Background: The children's university lectures are intended to awaken an interest in solving scientific problems at an early age and give children the opportunity to "experience" the flair of a university. The BTU Cottbus - Senftenberg thus gives schoolchildren from the 3rd to 6th grade the opportunity to get a taste of university life and teaches solutions to everyday scientific phenomena in a child-friendly and exciting way. This stimulates formative experiences that awaken the youngest children's interest in science and reduce their inhibitions towards university.

The next children's university lectures will take place on Wednesday, 12 November 2025, at 5 p.m. at Campus Senftenberg and Thursday, 13 November, at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at BTU's main campus in Cottbus.
