Colonial and socialist traces in the present day
The initiative "Cottbus Postcolonial and PostSocialist" offers a historical-political tour through the Cottbus city center. Colonial and socialist places of remembrance will be used to show how the traces of these power relations continue to shape the history of the city today. The search for traces is oriented around the questions:
Who determines what is remembered? Which stories are heard and which stories are forgotten?
Beginning on the square at the Oberkirche, where two testimonies of German colonial history can be found, the city tour continues with a critical look at Prince Hermann von Pückler-Muskau. Afterwards we turn to the socialist past of the city of Cottbus and learn about socialist architecture and colonial references in the GDR. In doing so, we will especially deal with the continuities of racism.
To participate in the event it is sufficient to arrive on
10.11.2022 at 13:30 at the specified meeting point. It is not necessary to register in advance. The offer is primarily aimed at students, but lecturers, employees of the BTU and other interested persons are also cordially invited.
We look forward to reflecting together on and thinking together about colonialism and socialism, critical inquiries and discussion.
