Successful Science Slam on April 21, 2023 at Brauhaus Finsterwalde

On the evening of April 21, 2023, the time had come: the 2nd Brandenburg Science Slam celebrated its kick-off event in the original Finsterwalde Brauhaus.

Organizers of the slam series are the presence offices of the Brandenburg universities. In Finsterwalde, four slammers from four different disciplines and topics competed on Friday evening:

  • Bastian Prell, a doctoral student at TH Wildau and BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, on the topic of "Innovations and Acceptance."
  • Moritz Kirchner, managing director from the Institute for Communication and Society, with "What to do about conspiracy theories?";
  • Richard Rath, a doctoral student at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, discussed "What is good work?"
  • Julian Stähle, a master's student at the University of Potsdam let the stars shine with "The Physics of Wolf Rayet Stars."

With their 10-minute slams on their exciting research topics, the slammers captivated some 160 guests of all ages. Guests in the sold-out auditorium were delighted with the highly entertaining nature of the presentations.

The evening opened with a rousing video message from Dr. Manja Schüle, Minister for Science, Research and Culture of the State of Brandenburg. A good-humored Jens Herrmann, the well-known BB Radio presenter, editor-in-chief and podcast host at the "Mitternachtstalk", led through the evening. He managed to take away the slammers' stage fright right from the start by giving uninvolved visitors tasks for the course of the evening, such as stopping the times, drawing lots for the slam order and more.

An entertaining quiz ensured that the guests not only enjoyed good slams and cold Brauhaus beer, but were also able to contribute their knowledge. It became exciting when two quiz participants came on stage and competed in front of the entire audience in a merry surround to "stab".

And that was not all! After the award ceremony, in which Bastian Prell was crowned the best slammer of the evening, the evening continued seamlessly with the young Finsterwalde singer & songwriter Gabriela Dombrowe, who captivated all the guests with her enchanting voice on the piano.

All in all, it was a successful evening - the next Science Slam can come!
