Rally: We dance together - defending democracy
Before the state elections, the indivisible-South Brandenburg alliance invites you to a large rally in defense of our democracy on Saturday, September 14, from 4 to 8 p.m. on the square in front of the Cottbus town hall. Special highlights will be the concerts by Mia Morgan, Malonda and Skuth.
Katharina König, press spokesperson for unteilbar-Südbrandenburg, emphasizes the urgency of the rally: "On Saturday, we will bring the democratic Cottbus, the diverse Lusatia to the streets and stand up together for cohesion, democracy and against the extreme right. I am particularly looking forward to the performances by our great artists. This time we are not only demonstrating together; we are also dancing together!"
Representatives of various institutions and groups will give speeches at the rally. Speakers will include Superintendent Georg Thimme (Evangelical Church District of Cottbus), Ulrike Kremeier (Director of the Brandenburg State Museum of Modern Art), Werner Tress (Moses Mendelsohn Center at the University of Potsdam) and Fatuma Musa Afrah (United Action Women and Girls e.V.).
There will also be information stands from Schöner Leben ohne Nazis, Unteilbar-Südbrandenburg, the Cottbus environmental group, AfD-Verbot-Jetzt!, Cottbuser Aufbruch and Kein Bock auf Nazis, among others. There will also be refreshments available for a donation.
Katharina König explains why such a broad social alliance is demonstrating on Saturday: "The AfD's policies are a conservative elite project that is beyond the reality of normal people's lives. If their program were to be implemented, it would mean that the middle of society would have less money in their pockets, the rich would have to pay less tax, refugees would have to fear for their lives, women would be banished to the stove and we would be defenceless against climate change. That is precisely why we, as a broad alliance, are standing up now and saying resolutely No!"
The Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg, the State Theatre, the Brandenburg State Museum of Modern Art, the Piccolo Theatre and the Luther Church have already called on people to take part in the rally and vote democratically with large banners under the motto "Defend democracy!". The banners will be on display in the respective buildings until the election.
