The Chair of Engineering Mechanics and Vehicle Dynamics is located in the Institute of Transportation Technology at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Energy Systems at the Brandenburg Technical University of Cottbus - Senftenberg. It has been led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Hon. Prof. (NUST) Dieter Bestle since 1999.
The teaching aims to show students from various engineering courses how practical problems can be solved using exact mathematical methods. For this purpose, the basics of statics, strength of materials, dynamics, vibration theory and hydromechanics are taught in several lectures on technical mechanics, which are then deepened in the special lectures on machine and vehicle dynamics and optimization of dynamic systems. These theoretical findings are clearly consolidated in experiments and internships.
The focus of the research is the development of methods for modeling, analysis and synthesis of dynamic systems using numerical and experimental investigations. In particular, optimization and robustness studies as well as process integration open up wide fields of application in the areas of vehicle dynamics and engine technology.
