Research meets application in Lusatia

On 11 November 2026, BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg will host its first joint Transfer Day and Research Day at the Cottbus-Sachsendorf campus.

How can research drive social change and put innovations into practice? The 11th BTU Transfer Day and the 3rd Research Day, taking place on Wednesday 11 November 2026 at the BTU Cottbus-Sachsendorf campus, will address this question. Under the motto ‘Science meets Transfer: social thinking, social impact!’, academia, business and society will come together for a programme of events. Visitors will have the opportunity to talk to researchers, learn about projects and network with key players from the region.

The morning’s programme will focus on research in the social sector. Prof. Dr Raj Kollmorgen from Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences will open the programme with a keynote speech on social transformation and social innovations in peripheral regions. In a subsequent discussion, representatives from academia, business and regional institutions will explore the role that social research and research transfer play in the innovative transformation of Lusatia.

During the ‘Poster Flash’, PhD students and postdocs will present their research projects – briefly, creatively and persuasively. The audience will then vote live on the best presentations. The interactive lunch break also offers the chance to discover exciting projects along the Research and Transfer Trail or to take a look at the replica of a vault from Notre-Dame.

Transfer Innovations / Award Ceremonies

In the afternoon, there will be an insight into the Social Innovations Transfer Office of the Brandenburg Economic Development Agency, followed by a specialist presentation on social innovation in practice, using a delivery robot as an example. The event will conclude with several awards: alongside the Audience Award for the ‘Poster Flash’, the BTU Transfer Prize 2026, the Best Paper Awards for early-career and senior researchers, and prizes for the best doctoral theses of 2026 will be presented.
