Achieving a shared communicative goal through different languages

Communication requires language. And language is diverse – just as diverse as the possibilities for communicating successfully with one another despite differing linguistic backgrounds. Practical, functional multilingualism can enrich the everyday lives of all members of our BTU community.

Have you ever been asked for directions on campus by a student? Were you able to give an answer – perhaps not perfectly? Were you able to help that person reach their destination?

Language Offers

The Language Centre offers general and specialised seminars at the various levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Our range of seminars includes intensive and part-time, curriculum-based and optional face-to-face and online language learning programmes for students and Staff Members at our university. Visitors are also welcome to learn languages with us, subject to availability.

Academia, teaching, research and business are increasingly interconnected on a global scale. As a result, sound language skills and intercultural competence are now essential for academic, professional and personal development. They open doors to other people, countries and cultures – and to yourself!

Certificate "Intercultural Competence"

BTU offers its employees various opportunities to develop their international competence. To receive the BTU Certificate of International Competence, employees must complete three requirements: acquiring key intercultural skills through a two-day workshop offered by the Continuing Education Center; developing English language proficiency through courses offered by the Language Center; and gaining experience through an international exchange via ERASMUS+ staff mobility programs.
