V-Prof. Christoph Wessling

biography

Christoph Wessling is a freelance urban planner and architect from Berlin who has been working in urban development planning and urban design since 1992.

He has also worked as a researcher and lecturer at the Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU) for more than 20 years. He is co-founder of the double-degree master's programme Urban Design - Sustainable Revitalization (until 2024 Urban Design - Revitalization of Historic City Districts), which has been run at the BTU together with the University of Cairo and Alexandria since 2014.

Since 2004, Christoph Wessling has established numerous collaborations with universities and civil institutions at the BTU and set up the Middle East Cooperation Unit at the BTU, which supports the Urban Design course and carries out research projects in the field of heritage development and post-conflict reconstruction planning.

From 2016 to 2019, Christoph was a mentor for the integrated urban development concept for the city of Chernivtsi in Ukraine. From 2020 to 2023, Christoph Wessling was Deputy Professor of Urban Planning and Development at the Technical University of Berlin. He is a member of the PAN-Ukraine Initiative, which supports Ukrainian universities in developing teaching in the field of integrated urban development planning.
