Wolfgang Haupt joined BTU Cottbus as a lecturer in April 2022. He is also a PostDoc at the Leibniz Institute for Spatial Social Research (Research Group Urban Sustainability Transformations). His research focuses primarily on the urban level. Currently, it mainly includes urban climate governance (climate change mitigation and adaptation), urban resilience, social movements (particularly environmental and climate movements), processes and modes of innovation transfer between cities, as well as material and immaterial cultural heritage and its significance for urban development.
Wolfgang Haupt holds a bachelor's and a master's degree in geography from Technische Universität Dresden (2008-2014) and a Ph.D. in urban studies from Gran Sasso Science Institute L’Aquila and Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies Pisa (2015-2019). In his Ph.D. thesis he explored processes of learning among local policymakers (city-to-city learning) and how these are facilitated by transnational municipal climate networks.
In spring and autumn 2017 he conducted two visiting research stays at the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education in the Netherlands. Between October 2018 and May 2019 he worked as lecturer and coordinator of the international master programme „City Resilience Design and Management“ at the International University of Catalonia in Barcelona.
