ORANGE THE WORLD - Action Days against Violence 2022

From November 25 to December 10, 2022, "Action Days against Violence" will take place for the first time at the Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU) Cottbus-Senftenberg. Cordial invitation to the symbolic flag-raising in Cottbus and Senftenberg

As part of the UN campaign "Orange the World 2022," the aim is to send a signal against violence, especially violence against women. More than 200 small flags will underscore this message in bright orange at many locations throughout the university during the days of action.

The action days will kick off with the raising of symbolic orange flags at the BTU campuses in Senftenberg and in Cottbus at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 25, 2022. All interested parties from the cities of Senftenberg and Cottbus as well as from the region are cordially invited to join together to set an example for a society based on solidarity.

Meeting points are:

  • at Campus Senftenberg, Universitätsplatz 1, in front of building 2, at the crossing Großenhainer Straße
  • at the Cottbus-Sachsendorf campus, at the entrance to building 7/library, at the intersection Lipezker Straße
  • at the Cottbus central campus, Platz der Deutschen Einheit 1, in front of the main building/entrance portal, on the side of Karl-Marx-Straße/IKMZ

With its Orange the World campaign, UN WOMEN has been raising awareness about violence against women for 16 days every year since 1991, from International Day to End Violence Against Women on November 25 to December 10, Human Rights Day.

Every year, on November 25, the Federal Criminal Police Office publishes the latest figures on reported cases of domestic and partner violence in Germany: according to these figures, in 2020 one in three women in Germany has been affected by violence at least once in her life, and every third day a woman died at the hands of her partner or ex-partner. The dark field is huge! The victim support organization WEISSE RING assumes that only every fifth crime is reported to the police.

However, violence is a topic that affects people of all genders! Expert lectures, readings and workshops during the Action Days therefore offer the opportunity to approach the topic from different perspectives.
