Energy-saving locomotion for environmental protection in the focus of the children's university

The development of new energy-efficient vehicles and machines will be the focus of the Children's University on Thursday and Saturday, January 5 and 7, 2023, at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU). BTU STEM Ambassador Pascal Fritzsche will welcome the children to the world of engineers.

Anyone who moves needs energy, and energy is valuable. The goal of saving energy is obvious. In this children's university lecture, the participants experience energy-saving locomotion by means of small experiments. Together with the lecturer, they look at where the energy used comes from, how it is converted and where energy losses occur. Exciting projects show what is already possible today and what the locomotion of the future could look like. Lightweight vehicles, optimized drive concepts and ever new advances in tribology - the science of wear, friction and lubrication of surfaces - are producing amazing results.

Pascal Fritzsche is the first former participant of the Children's University to pass on his current knowledge to today's participants as a speaker in a lecture. After graduating from the Emil Fischer Gymnasium in Schwarzheide, he completed a dual bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at the BTU in cooperation with P.U.S. Lauta GmbH and then a master's degree in mechanical engineering. In the student team Lausitz Dynamics, he was involved in the development of energy-saving vehicles. Today, he is an academic staff member at the BTU's Machine Tools Department. As one of the university's three MINT ambassadors, Pascal Fritzsche is committed to motivating more students to pursue careers in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology (MINT) and to inspire them to study.

Pupils from the third to sixth grades are invited toattend the children's university lecture "Less is more - how we move in an energy-saving way and thus protect the environment". The 45-minute event will begin for participants at the Cottbus Central Campus on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at 3 and 5:15 p.m. in the Central Lecture Hall Building, Audimax 2. Registrations are not required.

On Saturday, January 7, at 11 a.m., this begins Lecture for participants of the Children's University at the Senftenberg Campus in the large lecture hall of the Konrad Zuse Media Center, Room 11.122. For all those interested who cannot attend, for example, due to a long journey, the lecture will be broadcast live online. Registrations including the information whether the participation takes place in presence or online, are requested under the e-mail address kinderuni(at)b-tu.de  requested. The link to the online lecture will be sent after registration.

Background
Children's lectures are intended to arouse early interest in solving scientific and other questions, to give children the opportunity to experience the flair of a university. The BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg provides solutions to scientific phenomena of everyday life in a child-friendly, exciting way and thus creates formative experiences and experiences that are intended in particular to reduce the inhibition threshold to a university.
