Mobility needs of older people - research close to the people

Workshops with citizen participation help researchers to identify the mobility needs of older people as part of the cross-university AlterPerimentale initiative. Here, interested parties have the opportunity to actively participate in the research and contribute their experiences.

The first workshopwill start on Wednesday, 29 January 2025, 10 a.m. - 1.30 p.m. CoCo-Commoning in the Schlosskirchpassage Cottbus, Burgstraße 21/22. The workshops are organised in cooperation with a steering project of the AlterPerimentale initiative and the projectMoveToLausitz from the Chair of Regional Planning at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg.

The AlterPerimentale transfer initiative is a cooperation between the chairs of "Social Services for Structurally Weak Regions" and "Regional Planning" at the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, the chair of "Social Work in the Digitalised Society" at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences Berlin and the Heinersdorf Practice Research Centre.

The AlterPerimentale programme addresses the challenges of demographic change in the areas of public services, health and care at a regional level in order to maintain and improve the quality of life of older people in rural areas. It is being funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the "TransferRäume für die Zukunft der Regionen" (T!Raum) funding line for an initial three years and may receive funding for a further six years to ensure continuity.

The initiative's transfer area comprises the districts of Oder-Spree, Spree-Neisse and Görlitz as well as the independent city of Cottbus/Chóśebuz. The initiative was created through the civic engagement of the Heinersdorf practical research centre in the Oder-Spree district, which has been experimenting with the model of a practical research centre in rural areas since 2020. This service was professionalised and established for the first time as part of the T!In addition, the Heinersdorf practical research centre acts as a source of ideas for the two other practical research centres that are now being established as part of the initiative in January 2025 at the BTU in Cottbus and in the course of spring 2025 in cooperation with the Zittau-Görlitz University of Applied Sciences in the district of Görlitz.
