Immerse yourself in the hidden world of microbes

The interactive travelling exhibition Bakteriopolis can be experienced at BTU and will be presented from 8 to 11 July 2025 at the Cottbus main campus and from 15 to 17 July at the university's Campus Senftenberg.

Visitors of all ages are invited to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of bacteria and explore the incredible versatility of these tiny but powerful creatures.

The exhibition is open in Cottbus in the forum in front of the Central Lecture Hall Building and in Senftenberg in front of Building 4 (next to the cafeteria) from 8.30 am to 2 pm for school classes and groups, who are asked to register by emailing studienorientierung(at)b-tu.de.
The exhibition is open to all interested parties without registration from 2 to 3 pm.

Bakteriopolis shows why bacteria are the true all-rounders of life: They were the origin of all life, shape our everyday lives and offer solutions for the future.
The exhibition provides information about the enormous diversity and importance of these microorganisms.
Interactive stations allow visitors to explore the limits of the microscopic world for themselves, offering them the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the properties of spirulina, a microalgae considered to be the new superfood, or to find out why kefir, as a microbial ecosystem, holds the secret to health and well-being. The exhibition also explains how bacteria influence countless areas of life - such as nutrition, health and modern technologies.
A very special highlight is the presentation of the "Microbe of the Year".

About the exhibition:
The unique travelling exhibition Bakteriopolis was conceived at TU Dresden and is coordinated by the Chair of General Microbiology there. It transforms an overseas container into an interactive experience for visitors of all ages.
