Three BTU locations united at the Snowflake Ball
If you wanted to be there this year, you had to hurry. After the successful balls of previous years, places in the festively decorated canteen were in high demand early on and had already been allocated a week before the event. The student organisation team from the Senftenberg Departmental Committee Round Table once again ensured an unforgettable evening. After the reception with champagne and juices in the foyer, it wasn't long before the ballroom-turned-dining hall was filled with expectant guests in evening dress.
Recognition from the president and mayor
Student presenters Elisabeth Großmann and Elisa Michel thanked all the contributors and supporters of the Snowflake Ball and invited BTU President Prof. Dr Gesine Grande and Senftenberg Mayor Andreas Pfeiffer to the stage. The President preceded her words of welcome with the promise she had made with the mayor to open the next Snowflake Ball with a joint dance.
She highlighted the positive development of Senftenberg as a location, including increasing student numbers and new study programmes, and thanked the mayor for the continuous support from the city of Senftenberg, Sebastian Ladendorf and the student organisation team for the ball, as well as the canteen team. "This ball brings us together, it creates an opportunity for many conversations, dancing and merriment," emphasised the BTU President. ,
"Glamour, music and encounters - it's elegant and festive in here, everything is even better and more beautifully decorated than in previous years," said Mayor Andreas Pfeiffer, praising the organising team and the presenters of the Snowflake Ball. He thanked the President and the entire university management as well as the Departmental Committees for their commitment to Senftenberg.
Dancing and celebrating in magical light
A string quartet from the Instrumental and Vocal Performance and Teaching study programme at Cottbus-Sachsendorf accompanied the opening of the ball and immediately afterwards ensured a full dance floor with the Flower Waltz. For two hours, students Rocco Waas, Lena Meffert, Fanny Schönhardt and Jonah Bonilla routinely played dance music ranging from classical to pop. The DJ from Seenland-Event then took over until the early hours of the morning, delighting the many dance enthusiasts. In between, they fortified themselves with pretzels, canapés and cakes from the canteen and reasonably priced drinks from the student bar. Bathed in multi-coloured light from green and red to violet, the hall was unrecognisable. At a late hour, more students joined the ball guests to celebrate with them in an exuberant atmosphere until the early hours of the morning.
Numerous couples and groups took the opportunity to take souvenir photos in front of a BTU photo wall with the support of the Information Technology Departmental Committee from the Cottbus main campus. The photos could be printed out on the spot and taken home.
"Prepared with a lot of love"
The number of ball guests was even greater than before, partly due to a shuttle bus being used for the first time for the return journey to Cottbus. Many of them were happy to return after the successful events of previous years, such as BTU teaching and research fellow Stephan Hernschier, who had travelled from Dresden with his wife. "Simply because it's nice," he said. "We'll keep coming back as long as this ball exists."
Elisabeth Großmann, a student of Therapy Sciences and now a member of the organising team for the second time, explained: "I really like the ball, which is why I'm involved. It's something completely different from student parties." Tobias Kindermann, a Business Administration graduate, added: "I think it's great, the food tastes good, the people are pleasant and the drinks prices are good too." Lara Voigt and Max Hoffmann, Biotechnology students, were at the ball for the first time and emphasised: "It's a very nice event and prepared with a lot of love, which is already clear from the decorations. It's particularly nice that guests from three campuses of our university have come together here."

Thanks for support
The students would like to thank BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg and Studierendenwerk Ost:Brandenburg with the team from the canteen in Senftenberg in particular for their support of the Snowflake Ball. "We were able to gain KWG Senftenberg, Landskron Brau-Manufaktur and the BTU's Friends' Association as new sponsors," says Sebastian Ladendorf, emphasising once again the cross-location cooperation between the Departmental Committees and stressing:
"We are planning the fourth Snowflake Ball for 2027."
