From Tunisia to Cottbus: Samar's path to Artificial Intelligence
When the Tunisian-born student began her Master's programme at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) in 2022, she was one of the first students to enrol on the new Master's in Artificial Intelligence (AI). She found this pioneering role particularly inspiring: "I felt like I was part of something completely new." She is particularly enthusiastic about the variety of courses - in particular those that combine artificial intelligence with bioinformatics and neuroscience. Samar had previously completed her Bachelor's degree in Computer Science at L'Institut Supérieur des Technologies de l'Information et des Communications (ISTIC) in Borj Cedria, Tunisia.
Samar feels at home in Cottbus. She really appreciates the quiet, surprisingly international atmosphere and the proximity to nature. At the same time, the good connections to cities such as Berlin, Leipzig and Dresden ensure that she never feels isolated.
Samar's studies at BTU
At BTU, it's often the little things that make everyday student life special for Samar: long library opening hours, the proximity to her hall of residence and the new, modern canteen on the main campus.
A semester abroad at Incheon National University (INU) in Incheon, South Korea, also had an impact on her. There she experienced a new culture, gained valuable experience and grew personally. "It made me more open-minded and taught me a lot about people - an experience I would recommend to anyone," she says.
Outside of lecture theatres and seminar rooms
Alongside her studies, Samar worked for a year as a research assistant in the Chair of Database and Information Systems.
"My professor, Prof. Ingo Schmitt, gave me complete freedom to explore the research project, which helped me to develop as a researcher and revitalise my critical thinking. I really appreciate this kind of supervisor at BTU," she enthuses about the experience.
The AI student is currently involved in the Buddy Programme, helping other international students to settle in Cottbus. For her, the programme is a clear win-win situation: "It's not just about giving, I've also received a lot in return. The programme has helped me to understand people better and improved my communication skills. It's also an easy way to become part of a wider community."
Study Artificial Intelligence (M.Sc.) at the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg
If you want to design the algorithms and processes behind current and future applications of artificial intelligence yourself, the international Artificial Intelligence (M.Sc.) study programme is the right place for you. This study programme focuses on mastering basic research skills and techniques that will enable you to learn to develop future AI methods.
The language of teaching on the international Master's degree programme in Artificial Intelligence is English.
