In the teaching of the Bachelor's program in Civil Engineering, the Chair of Mechanics and Numerical Methods represents the basic modules of statics and strength of materials, kinetics and hydromechanics as well as introductory courses on numerical simulation methods and machine learning. In the Master's area, in-depth courses of continuum mechanics and material modeling with respect to numerical simulation are offered.

Our research work is currently focused on

  • Material modeling
  • multi-scale simulation methods
  • damage mechanics simulations and fracture mechanics
  • generalized continuum theories for modeling size effects and phase field models
  • quality and process management of numerical simulations including the consideration of technical and legal risks
  • biomechanical simulations for the prediction of injury severity of injured persons
  • determination of climate-induced glacier changes in southern Greenland using geodetic and numerical methods
