A student council is actually the entirety of all students studying a particular subject. Colloquially, however, it usually refers to the so-called student council. This is elected by and from the students of a subject and represents the interests of the students of that subject. They help with questions and problems relating to their studies, organise parties or information events for students, and sometimes also further training courses or excursions that are relevant to the subject.
The interests of the BTU student body are represented by the Student Parliament (StuPa) and the Student Council (StuRa).
The student parliament is ‘the highest decision-making body of the student body’. It is therefore involved in all important university policy issues and in many cases also makes decisions itself. The meetings of the parliament are open to the university public and are therefore open to all interested parties!
The Student Council is the executive body of the student self-administration and implements the goals decided upon by the student body. It is composed of various departments, which are elected by the StuPa. Thematic issues are discussed and solutions sought in the various departments. For example, there are departments for health & sport, culture, social affairs, finance and mobility.
| Student employees may form their own staff council in accordance with Section 94 of the LPersVG Bbg (Bandenburg Local Authority Personnel Representation Act). | (still on hold) |
Term of office: One year for student employees.
In addition to the student committees, there are also committees in our institutes and the Faculty of Human Sciences, which include elected student representatives. These committees deal with topics such as teaching, research, the appointment of professors, the further development of degree programmes and/or university finances.
Students can bring their concerns and needs to these committees and ensure that they are taken into account in decision-making.
