The Senate*is the central body of academic self-administration.
Among other things, it is responsible for issuing and amending the basic regulations, the electoral regulations and other statutes and decides on fundamental issues relating to teaching, research, study programmes and examinations. It is responsible for the promotion of young academics and artists, the election and dismissal of the President and the decision on the University Development Plan (HEP).

In particular, Senate committees are formed to prepare and advise on Senate resolutions.

Members do not have to be members of the Senate at the same time.
 
The Finance and Budget Committee ensures the planning, monitoring and management of the University's financial resources. 
The Commission for Structure and Development prepares , for example, recommendations for decisions for the University Executive Board and Senate, e.g. on university facilities, centres, structure and development plans.monthly
The Commission for Teaching, Studies, Study Reform and Continuing Education ( KLSSW) discusses and approves, among other things, new versions/amendments to examination and study regulations, the semester schedule and timetable as well as the FÜS catalogue (General Studies).monthly
The Commission for Research, Young Academics and Technology Transferdiscusses, among other things, the strengthening of research at BTU and supports the selection of research awards/scholarships.monthly
The Commission for University Culture and University Communityis committed to creating a lively, friendly campus. Among other things, it is involved in the development of a new mission statement for the BTU, works with the relevant departments to develop a sustainable equality concept and a diversity strategy, supports the implementation of the action plan against extreme right-wing influence at the BTU and participates in the further development of measures to improve the compatibility of study/work and private life.usually every 6 weeks
All academic staff at BTU are obliged to make the regulations of the statutes for safeguarding good academic practice and for dealing with suspected cases of academic misconduct the basis of their academic work and to actively contribute to the prevention and clarification of academic misconduct in their area of activity. To carry out the formal investigation, there is a Commission for the Investigation of Allegations of Scientific Misconduct. 
TheEthics Committeedeals in particular with issues relating to the possible use of research results for non-peaceful purposes and research projects involving humans and animals and makes recommendations in this regard. The Ethics Committee reports annually to the Senate in writing on its work.quarterly

The BTU has set a focus on internationalisation and would like to expand this further. The BTU sees internationalisation as a cross-sectional task in which the faculties, administrative units and students are equally involved.

 Meetings
The Internationalisation Advisory Board has an exclusively advisory function. For example, it advises the Vice President for Internationalisation on the development of measures in the University Development Plan (HEP), the improvement of administrative processes and procedures in the area of internationalisation or the supervision of awards from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
The Advisory Board also sees itself as a forum for regular exchange with international students, academics and other staff members.

BTU is one of the largest employers in the city. The Staff Council helps employees in such a large institution to have a say, have a say and help shape the organisation. It is involved in many important decisions and represents the interests of employees.

The General Staff Council deals with social, organisational and other internal matters that affect all employees of the university, e.g. occupational health and safety and accident prevention, working time regulations, data protection .monthly
The Academic Staff Council has, for example, co-determination rights in personnel measures such as recruitment, fixed-term employment contracts, grouping, higher grouping, regrouping, ordinary dismissal including dismissal with notice of change, refusal or revocation of a secondary employment. It represents the academic staff members and research assistants.fortnightly
The non-scientific staff council accepts suggestions and complaints from employees, monitors compliance with collective agreements and service agreements in favour of employees and provides support with integration.
