The BTU once again occupies a top position in the DAAD funding rankings

Successful in the field of internationalization: Whether in individual or project funding, at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg students, graduates and international projects benefit from established structures, targeted measures and many years of experience in internationalization.

In July 2023, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) published the current funding balances for its member universities. In it, Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) ranked 12th in funding per student and 39th in overall funding for the year 2022. The DAAD has a total of 242 member universities and 105 student councils. The lists of university-related evaluations present the positions of the 100 universities with the highest funding contributions nationwide in comparison from various points of view.

Prof. Gesine Grande, President of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, sees the university's very good performance as the result of long-term, targeted measures and says: "With our funding amounts, we have already occupied top positions for ten years. In addition to project funding, individual support for students and graduates is particularly important to us. With the support of the DAAD, we want to make it possible for as many young people as possible to study and research at the BTU. The cultural diversity, creativity and great commitment of international students and researchers enrich our academic community and strengthen our university. The good and trusting cooperation with the DAAD is an important building block for us in our international strategic orientation."

Mareike Kunze, Head of the International Relations Office, adds: "We are happy to face the competition and use the funding to continuously and purposefully advance our internationalization. The growing number of BTU students from abroad each year is a sure sign that we are on the right track with our future-oriented and stimulating study programs. Currently, 40 percent of them come from 125 countries worldwide. In addition to the German-language study programmes, the current fifteen international English-language programmes, including double and joint degrees, are particularly in demand. More are in the pipeline. This is appreciated by prospective students, and we are working to further expand these offerings."

BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg has been committed to internationalization for many years. The promotion of international mobility of all university members and the anchoring of the international perspective, taking into account the respective subject culture, is a central theme in all teaching offers. A steady increase in applications and enrollments of undergraduate and graduate students from all over the world are an expression of successful teaching and junior research. The BTU has a high degree of professionalization and can also rely on a successful HRK audit and HRK re-audit for internationalization. Since 2020, it has been part of the European University Alliance EUNICE. An updating internationalization strategy is currently being developed, which will focus even more on the implementation of new and strengthening of existing mobility formats and cooperation with partner universities in teaching and research.
