Project "Time2go4sutainability" successfully launched

Students from six European partner universities are working together in a new Erasmus+ BIP project to develop a prosthetic arm. The highly motivated participants met at the Campus Senftenberg of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) for a joint kickoff during a kickoff week.

The Erasmus+ Blended Intense Programme (BIP) offers students the opportunity to combine physical short-term mobility with virtual seminars. As part of the innovative "Time2go4sutainability" project, three dedicated mechanical engineering students from the BTU are working together with 21 fellow students from five renowned European partner universities in four teams.

In addition to the BTU, which is represented by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Ziegenhorn and Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Syivio Simon, are the University of Mons (Belgium), the Polytechnic University of Madrid (Spain), Centrale Nantes (France), the Technical University of Riga (Latvia) and the Technical University of Prague (Czech Republic).

During the kick-off week from October 2-6, 2023, participants received a comprehensive introduction and important basics for the development task in joint lectures and workshops. Special attention was paid to the topic of sustainability in the design process.

The participants also had the opportunity to get to know each other better and to network. This took place not only in the seminars, but also during an informative excursion to the Transparent Factory in Dresden and at a joint barbecue. In the coming months, the student teams will be supported by experienced coaches and accompanied by online events while they work on developing their arm prostheses. A particular challenge is that all work must be coordinated and carried out online. The results will finally be presented and defended by the teams in May 2024.

The implementation of the kick-off week was also gratefully supported by the Förderverein of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg.

Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programs (BIP) are innovative educational programs offered within the Erasmus+ program. They enable students to participate in intensive, mostly interdisciplinary seminars that include both physical classroom sessions and online components. This innovative teaching and learning concept funds student mobility and enables students to gain valuable experience in different countries and educational institutions without neglecting the benefits of digital education.
