Launch of the Language Lounge: Languages bring people together at the Lausitz Science Park
The aim of the event is clearly defined: to bring together stakeholders from across the LSP ecosystem in a relaxed atmosphere. The focus is not on traditional language learning, but on learning from one another and networkingdirectly across language barriers.
An icebreaker with a regional twist
To kick things off, eight participants gathered to improve their German and English skills. The session began with a light-hearted round of introductions centred on culinary preferences. Whilst aversions to seafood or pasta were quickly clarified, the term “Tote Oma” initially caused some bewilderment among the international guests. Once the traditional dish had been explained with a touch of humour, the ice was finally broken and the atmosphere was lively.
From a helping hand to natural conversation
The focus of the lounge was on direct exchange in pairs. To help get things started, “Activity Cards” with prompt questions were provided. However, these soon became a secondary matter, as the conversations in all groups quickly flowed naturally.
What makes this format special:
- Direct feedback: Participants supported one another and provided immediate feedback in the respective target language.
- No pressure to perform: There was absolutely no judgement of language proficiency. The focus was on the joy of communication.
- Networking: In addition to the language, valuable new contacts were made within the LSP community.
Join the community
The Language Lounge demonstrates how easy networking can be when language is used as a bridge rather than a barrier. The Lausitz Science Park warmly invites anyone interested to join us next time.
