PhD defense Emilia Pożarowska

On April 28, 2026, Emilia Pożarowska successfully defended her dissertation on the topic »In situ characterization of growth, structure, and surface chemistry in mixed rare-earth oxide model catalysts.«

In her PhD thesis, Emilia investigated a model system consisting of rare-earth oxides (cerium and samarium) on various metal substrates. In particular, she investigated how samarium doping of cerium oxide can influence its catalytic activity. To this end, the growth and structural properties of these mixed oxides were characterized using spectromicroscopic methods. Cerium oxides are attractive catalysts for CO₂ conversion.

The work was conducted in the Department of »Applied Physics and Semiconductor Spectroscopy« and supervised by Prof. Dr. Jan Ingo Flege  and Dr. Carlos Morales
