KLĔB A SOL - Cottbus Welcome Party

An entire city says welcome: On Tuesday, May 28, 2024, a welcome event for the Lusatian boomtown will take place in Cottbus city center for the first time. A colorful democracy mile in the Sprem, a large table football tournament on the Altmarkt and a multicultural pub night in around twelve locations from the Ebert-Höfe to the city promenade invite you to celebrate.

KLĔB A SOL stands for bread and salt, which in Sorbian and Slavic culture is traditionally served to strangers who are welcome at home. As part of the nationwide Diversity Day, an alliance of stakeholders from business, the city, university and civil society under the patronage of Cottbus Mayor Tobias Schick is inviting people to the big Cottbus Welcome Party. Under the motto "Cohesion", trainees and students from the region, Germany and all over the world can gather information at stands in the city center and celebrate a new, colorful and loud welcome culture together with the people of Cottbus. Free drink coupons are waiting for a total of 1,000 students and trainees.

The coupons will be available on May 28, 2024, from 6 p.m. at the Welcome Center Cottbus and at the "Cottbus ist BUNT" stand on the Altmarkt. Together with many supporters, a diverse event with various focal points throughout the city center has emerged from an idea of the economy, which stands for cosmopolitanism and diversity in line with the nationwide Diversity Day. Cottbus is undergoing a unique transformation - over 5 billion euros are currently being invested in Europe's most modern railroad plant, Germany's new university medical center, a flourishing scientific landscape and many other future projects.

BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg is participating in the KLĔB A SOL welcome festival with a total of 12 program items. The offers are diverse. They range from hands-on activities for product development on the 3D printer, ideas for a climate-neutral Lusatia, urban planning games, improvisational theater, linguistic diversity, interactions between artificial intelligence and social diversity, sports, games and musical performances.

Highlights and program at a glance

The event kicks off at 4 p.m. with the Democracy and Encounter Mile in the Stadtbrunnen and Schlosskirchplatz areas. The focus here will be on a long "coffee table" for good conversation over a shared meal. Bäcker Wahn will supply bread and salt in keeping with the event's motto, otherwise everyone can bring their own food and drinks. There will be activities all around, from the chess mile to hands-on offers from the university - over 40 activities and information stands will ensure a colorful hustle and bustle. At 6 p.m., an exhibition by the Kunsthalle Lausitz will open in the rooms of Citymanagement Cottbus under the motto "Cottbus inspires".

A big table football tournament will also start on the Altmarkt at 4 pm. Up to two dozen teams from Cottbus companies and institutions will compete against each other for the BOOMTOWN Cup sponsored by EGC Cottbus in two competitions: the "Young Kicker" with young teams (up to 25 years old) and the Company Cup. Registration for the Youngster Cup is still possible: www.leag.de/kicker.

Around the tournament, information stands from both chambers of commerce, the employment agency, LEAG, companies and networks will provide information on training prospects and opportunities, including how to set up your own start-up. One stand will be screen printing cool shirts to match the event. From 3:30 p.m., the Welcome Center opposite Cottbus Town Hall will be the central information point and contact point for international students and interested parties from all over the world. From here, accompanied tours for smaller groups to the Meeting and Democracy Mile and the Altmarkt - including language support in ten languages - are available. In addition to information, welcome snacks from various countries invite you to enjoy small culinary delights.

At 7 pm, light and fog as well as a hands-on activity with flags from all over the world on the Altmarkt will create euphoria and great pictures - a perfect transition for the pub night organized by Radio Cottbus immediately afterwards: Zelig, El Chico, Bellessa, Comicaze, Cafe Lucie, Mosquito, Mc Putt`n, Esscobar, Strandpromenade and the Käfig will be there. The spectrum ranges from salsa to pop, rock and Irish folk to an open-air summer party. The pub night is extended into the morning in the Käfig with an after-show party by Cottbuser Kulturpiraten.
