BELMA Award 2022 - Special Jury Prize for BTU Learning Game "re:construction

An innovative project of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) - developed in the Information, Communication and Media Center (IKMZ) - was awarded a prize at the Frankfurt Book Fair.

In the competition for the Best European Learning Materials Awards "BELMA", the developer team of the learning game "re:construction - Bring the world into balance" was awarded the "Special Prize of the Jury" in category 3 "Secondary education (including secondary vocational education)". On behalf of the BTU, Lukas Flagmeier, project employee from the Teach&Play project of the IKMZ, accepted the prize on October 19, 2022.

"re:construction" is a point-and-click adventure game that was developed under the direction of Dr. Claudia Börner as part of the Learn&Play project (2018-2021) as a digital study orientation offering and was further developed for use in teaching and lessons as part of the subsequent Teach&Play project. The aim is to inspire schoolchildren and first-year students for engineering problems in a playful way. The projects were funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and Culture with money from the European Social Fund and the state of Brandenburg.

An international jury of experts evaluated all the competition entries for the BELMA Award 2022 and gave the BTU project the following testimonial: "Incorporating the problem-solving potential of the sciences, especially mathematics and physics, into the solution of potential societal challenges is an interesting and appealing approach. This game-based program is not only beautifully designed, but also very easy to navigate. A mentor offers helpful advice any time a player is struggling. The library and additional videos provide good learning input and reinforcement. A three-level glossary provides valuable information for both weaker and more inquisitive students."
