The DAAD gets to know its Cottbus and Senftenberg scholarship holders

30 young people from 21 countries are studying or doing research at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg on a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

The DAAD scholarship holders come, for example, from Mexico, Azerbaijan or Benin and are studying, among other things, architecture, environmental and resource management or are doing a doctorate in a wide variety of research fields. In their home countries, they have performed very well and have been awarded a DAAD scholarship, which they can use to finance part of their studies in Cottbus or Senftenberg.

On November 24, 2022, they were welcomed in a small ceremony by the Deputy Head of the International Relation Office Michael Mannel and the Head of the DAAD Capital Office Kai Franke. During the event, DAAD scholarship holder Rafael Maximiliano Flores de León reported on his research experiences and the scholarship program. Katja Ivanov, officer for the integration of international students at BTU, presented the support services for international students. After a discussion and Q&A session, students took the opportunity for personal conversations at a get together.

About 2,700 international students are currently studying at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg. This represents about 40 percent of the total student body. The continuing high number of foreign scholarship holders is an expression of the ongoing internationalization at BTU. A large number of projects in study, teaching and research with universities around the world bring young people to Lusatia and contribute to an international flair at the campuses in Cottbus and Senftenberg. With their outstanding achievements in studies and research, the DAAD scholarship holders not only contribute to the reputation of the BTU at home and abroad, but are also an important part of this growing international student body.
