General urban planning law for new and returning students

The one-year in-service training fits into any individual schedule. It consists of three modules leading to a university certificate. It is possible to take individual modules. Start date is March 3, 2023.

Whether for work in a building administration or in a construction planning office, comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of general urban planning law is an important prerequisite. A new certificate course enables interested parties to conveniently qualify alongside their job in a modern online offering consisting of lectures and digital tutorials, independent of time and location.

The concept for the online seminar was developed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bernhard Weyrauch as part of the teaching program at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg. He received the university's "Award for Digital Teaching" for it.

Heike Bartholomäus, Managing Director of the Center for Academic Continuing Education at BTU, explains: "What is special about our seminar is that we make teaching offers for our students accessible to additional target groups. The tutorials have a high practical relevance and include realistic planning cases. In particular, those who want to refresh or expand their knowledge alongside their job can join flexibly and complete the modules individually. The first run in 2022 was a great success and exceeded our expectations. We're building on that."

The certificate offering consists of three modules that are delivered asynchronously. Participants can thus determine their own learning rhythm and time. A total of 20 instructional videos impart knowledge that is supplemented by online tutorials. The resulting questions are answered to deepen and consolidate what has been learned. Digital live events with lectures and the opportunity for questions complement the offer.

Content focus of the certificate course:

  • Legislation and separation of powers
  • Admissibility within the scope of development plans, within built-up areas and for projects in external areas
  • Building utilization ordinance
  • Urban land use planning and its two planning levels
  • Procedures for land use and development plans
  • Environmental aspects in urban land use planning including environmental assessment and species protection
  • Securing urban land use planning and development

The lectures and seminar materials are available online to participants for one year. The cost of participation in the certificate program (general urban planning law for new and returning students) is 450 euros.
