For the tenth time: students invite you to the Christmas market in Senftenberg

Be enchanted by the Christmas flair on campus, experience a poetry slam or even help create one yourself, cheer on the teams in the Lusatian bridge building competition - university members and visitors from the region can do all of this on Wednesday and Thursday, December 13 and 14, 2023, between 4 and 10 p.m. at BTU in Campus Senftenberg.

For the tenth student Christmas market since 2012, BTU students are welcoming their guests to the Konrad Zuse Media Center, Building 11, of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) with free admission.

In eleven Christmas huts - provided by the city of Senftenberg and festively decorated by the operators - they will find both hearty and sweet treats as well as small gift ideas. Mulled wine, waffles, grilled kebabs, Asian kimchi soup, clothing, earrings and other knitted items are just a few examples of the wide range on offer. International students will provide insights into the South West African Christmas season at their stand.
The Christmas market is organized by the Student Representative Council of Biotechnology and Materials Chemistry with great support from the Student Representative Councils of Electrical Engineering and Medical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Therapy Sciences.

Register now to take part in the poetry slam!
The Christmas market in front of the Media Center will be accompanied by a poetry slam in the building's large lecture theatre on 13 December from 5 pm. Anyone who would like to take part and present a literary work they have written themselves on the subject of winter or Christmas in a maximum of ten minutes has the opportunity to do so. Props and up to four other participants are permitted. A jury selected from the audience will decide on the three winners, who will receive small prizes.
Ronja Tittel from the Biotechnology - Materials Chemistry student council at BTU will be accepting registrations up to and including Saturday, December 9, at ronja.tittel(at)b-tu.de.

The Lusatian Bridge Building Competition is the traditional student bridge building competition of Mechanical Engineering and will be held on December 14 from 4 p.m. parallel to the Christmas market in the Konrad Zuse Media Center. Both student teams and school pupils will be taking part with their self-constructed structures. The aim of the bridge-building competition is to construct a bridge from a maximum of 250 ice cream sticks, 20 meters of parcel string and wood glue that can carry as much load as possible with as little weight as possible. The bridges are subjected to alternating load tests under the same conditions on a specially developed test stand until they break. The competition is being organized under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Sylvio Simon, Prof. Dr. Matthias Ziegenhorn and research assistant Stephan Hernschier.
