Interdisciplinary panel discussion on the topic of artificial intelligence

The current event in the public series "Open BTU" is entitled "Artificial intelligence: between high-tech and ethics". All interested parties are invited to attend on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. in the Central Lecture Hall Building on the main campus of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) in Cottbus.

In a panel discussion in Audimax 1, BTU experts from the field of artificial intelligence will share their knowledge about the gradual integration of AI into our everyday lives and about the possibilities and limitations of the technology. They will also shed light on the ethical issues that arise.

From voice assistants that provide weather forecasts in the living room, to the use of ChatGPT as a modern teaching tool in schools and universities, to personalized recommendations from streaming services for films and series - artificial intelligence has become an integral part of our everyday lives. At the same time, these developments are also fueling fears and concerns.

An open interdisciplinary discussion round will provide an opportunity to ask the university's experts questions and engage in an exchange.

The event is initiated and supported by the BTU project KI(at)MINT(www.b-tu.de/ki-mint), whose project manager Prof . Dr. Peer Schmidt, Vice-President for Academic Affairs at BTU, will moderate the event.

The following discussion partners from BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg are expected:
Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Matthias Wolff (Chair of Communication Technology)
Dr. phil. Britta Rudolff (Field of Study Heritage Management)
Dr. Marius Klug (Head of the Young Investigator Group "Intuitive XR")
Dr. rer. nat. Toni Schneidereit (Chair of Applied Mathematics)
Henry Herkula (Centre for Continuing Education)
Julia Brademann (Student in the study programme providing further education)

Date: Wednesday, January 31, 2024, 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Location: Audimax 1 at the main campus of BTU, Konrad-Wachsmann-Allee 3, 03046 Cottbus

About the lecture series "Open BTU" of the Centre for Continuing Education
From October 18, 2023 to February 14, 2024, the public lecture series "Open BTU" offers interesting insights into exciting scientific fields. In the winter semester 2023/24, the focus will be on Lusatian structural change from different perspectives. In addition to the social perspective, the historical processes of the structural break in 1990 will be discussed, the Sorbian/Wendish culture in the current transformation process will be highlighted and different future options for the region will be presented through the scientific BTU expertise.
With this educational format, which is open to all interested parties, the University's Centre for Continuing Education supports lifelong learning and funds the transfer of knowledge and ideas in the region by addressing socially relevant issues. The BTU cooperates with other universities and institutions. Each lecture will be followed by an opportunity for questions and discussion with the speakers. Anyone interested is cordially invited to take part in the wide range of events on offer.
