Foreign high school students visit BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg

As part of the “support initiative for German schools abroad and partner schools (BIDS)”, high school students from abroad were able to learn about the wide range of courses offered by BTU.

Since 2008, BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg has participated in the BIDS project funded by the German Academic Exchange Service and maintains numerous contacts with so-called PASCH schools. We support the participation of PASCH students in the trial studies, organize visits to the central campus and award motivational scholarships to PASCH graduates.

As we work in cooperation with the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder), the 25 participants of the Viadrina trial studies visited us on June 26. After getting to know BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg and its range of courses during a general presentation, they made their way from the main lecture hall to the CreativeOpenLab. There, the students were given an insight into the various areas and were also able to visit the large workshops. After lunch in the cafeteria, the “Contrast program to Viadrina” plan was further implemented. In the Research and Materials Testing Institute, Mr. Maziul described the different areas to the group before showing them around part of the workshop. This allowed the students to see for themselves how close research and application are at BTU.

Five pupils from Turkey, who were able to discover BTU thanks to the support of the BIDS project, probably had the longest journey to the trial study program. Their interest in STEM subjects and architecture ideally matches the university's profile and could be covered by the corresponding trial study programs. Even before they embarked on these programs, they were introduced to BTU. With pictures and figures, the high school students were able to see in theory what awaited them in practice over the next three days. Together with the German high school students and other prospective students, they took part in presentations on general topics such as dual study programs, student financing and studying abroad. They were able to learn more about specific degree courses in discussions with current students. Guided laboratory tours and workshops gave an impression of the practical aspects of studying at BTU.

After their departure, we received the following messages from some of the high school students:

Görkem and Cansu from ALKEV Gymnasium Istanbul: “Thank you very much for accommodating us as part of the ‘trial study’ event and helping us to participate in this useful program. During the event, we were able to clarify many questions that were on our minds regarding the choice of our field of study.”

Arda and Ali Yağız from Istanbul Erkek Lisesi: “Ali Yağız and I would like to thank you very much for your help. The trial study program taught us a lot and we learned a lot. It was a really great experience to get to know the university and the students better.”
