Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bernhard Weyrauch from BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg among the professors of the year 2024
The award was presented on 18 November 2024 and will be honoured by BTU President Prof. Dr Gesine Grande at a certificate presentation ceremony at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg.
For 19 years, the "Professor of the Year" award has honoured professors who provide special support to their students in preparing them for professional life. It recognises lecturers who go beyond traditional teaching to fund students in a special way, including through close cooperation with employers, practice-oriented courses and the teaching of professional skills. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Weyrauch was honoured for his continuous commitment to teaching and practice, in particular for his efforts to network students with potential employers and for his involvement in the field of Construction and Planning Law.
This is only the second time that the award has gone to Brandenburg and the first time that it has gone to the University of Lusatia. "I am delighted to receive this award and see it as confirmation of how important it is to integrate practical relevance into teaching and prepare students for the demands of professional life at an early stage," commented the honoured professor. "I would like to thank the UNICUM Foundation as well as my students and colleagues at BTU for their trust and support."
Prof. Weyrauch has been Professor of Construction and Planning Law at Faculty 6 of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg since 2018 and was previously an honorary professor of urban planning law at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. His professional career includes a wide range of positions and activities in planning and administration, including as Project Manager at Tempelhof Projekt GmbH and as Manager of Plan und Recht GmbH. As an expert in Construction and Planning Law, Prof. Weyrauch is involved in teaching and research as well as being dean and actively supports his students in starting their careers in the construction and planning industry.
BTU President Prof. Dr Gesine Grande praised the special achievement of the head of department: "This award is a great recognition of Professor Weyrauch's commitment, who not only provides students with the highest level of specialist training, but also offers them valuable practical professional orientation. He thus makes a remarkable contribution to the attractiveness of BTU for prospective students and, of course, above all for our students."
