Children's university lecture on the topic of living space

Can residential buildings be built and dismantled several times? Or to put it another way: can houses be dismantled into their individual parts and used to build something new again? Answers to these questions can be found on Wednesday and Thursday, 8 and 9 January 2025, at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) children's university.

Pupils from third to sixth grade are invited to attend on Wednesday, 8 January at 5 p.m. in the large lecture theatre of the Konrad Zuse Media Centre on Campus Senftenberg .
Registrations are requested at the e-mail address kinderuni(at)b-tu.de.

The speaker is Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Angelika Mettke, who heads the field of study Structural Recycling at BTU. Among other things, she will discuss the reasons why residential buildings should be demolished when housing is needed in many places. She will also show examples of the demolition or dismantling of residential buildings and the children's university participants will find out what happens to the construction waste or previously used building components.

The children's university lectures are designed to awaken an interest in solving scientific problems at an early age and give children the opportunity to experience the flair of a university.
BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg gives schoolchildren from the third to sixth grades the opportunity to get a taste of university life and teaches them about solutions to everyday scientific phenomena in a child-friendly, exciting way. This encourages formative experiences that awaken the youngest children's interest in science and reduce their inhibitions about university.
