BTU Professor Silke Weidner appointed to the IBA Board of Trustees as an expert
Prof. Silke Weidner holds the chair of Urban Planning at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) and heads the Institute of Urban Planning at the university's Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Urban Planning.
Prof. Silke Weidner's expertise lies in particular in her many years of experience in integrated urban development planning and related participation and co-production processes. Her motivation and interest lie in the IBA theme "Spaces of Mobility". She emphasises: "Mobility is one of the major issues of the future in general and a central element in the urban-rural fabric."
The newly appointed Board of Trustees will play a central role in the IBA process and act as a scientific and technical advisory body. It will advise the Manager on content-related issues, in particular on the concept and thematic orientation of the IBA, the acceptance and qualification of project applications, the monitoring of IBA projects and the communication of IBA objectives.
The members of the Board of Trustees represent a broad spectrum of chairs and experience. The committee combines expertise from the fields of Urban Planning, Architecture, Transport Technology, Mobility Research, Environmental and Climate Policy, Public Transport, Spatial Development, Sustainability and Digitalisation. This interdisciplinary composition ensures a holistic view of the complex challenges facing the IBA Munich Metropolitan Region.
In addition, the members of the Board of Trustees contribute diverse perspectives from science, practice, business and culture. They have experience from the municipal, regional, national and international context, which ensures comprehensive and forward-looking advice.
A key task of the Board of Trustees will be to co-decide on the quality criteria for the award of the IBA label and the accreditation of IBA projects. This will ensure that only projects of the highest quality and innovative strength qualify as IBA projects.
More information on the members of the Board of Trustees can be found on the IBA website.
