BTU students praise the supervisors in the introductory phase of their studies

In the latest university ranking by the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE), the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) once again receives top marks, in particular for its support at the start of studies. BTU students gave the ranked study programmes an average of 4 out of 5 points.

The BTU's Bachelor's degree programmes Architecture and Civil Engineering, Biotechnology and Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Medical Engineering as well as Urban Planning and Urban Development were included in the current CHE ranking.

In the assessment of the study programmes, for which the students awarded an average of four out of five stars, the general study situation, supervision by lecturers and support during studies as well as the IT infrastructure and good library facilities, the design of the learning spaces and student workstations as well as the practical orientation in teaching were rated extremely positively.

The study programmes were evaluated with regard to the criteria of international orientation, professional practice, final degrees within a reasonable period of time and support at the beginning of the programme. As in previous years, the study programmes at BTU scored particularly well with the support offered to first-year students in the introductory phase of their studies, which makes the transition from school to university easier.

Prof. Peer Schmidt, Vice-President for Academic Affairs at BTU, is delighted: "The attractiveness of our study programmes has been particularly evident in the increasing number of students in recent years. But at the end of the day, what counts most is academic success: we invest equally in our programmes at the start of the degree course and in measures to improve study conditions during the course. The current CHE ranking confirms this!"

The CHE University Ranking, which has been published exclusively in the ZEIT Study Guide and on ZEIT ONLINE for twenty years, is the most comprehensive comparison of universities in the German-speaking world. It offers evaluations of more than 10,000 study programmes at German universities. In addition to facts about studies, teaching and research, it also assesses how students rate the practical relevance of their study programmes and career preparation measures. The entire CHE University Ranking with around 120,000 students surveyed can be accessed online at HeyStudium. The current CHE ranking covers six subject groups, including "Health, Sport and Psychology", "Engineering and Construction" and "Language and Culture". Extracts from the ranking also appear in the new ZEIT Study Guide 2025/26.
