Impetus for the subsequent use of a striking industrial building

"What is and what can become?" - these questions are the title of an impulse workshop for the vacant Building D of the former Gubener Wolle at Alte Poststraße 10 on Friday, September 15, 2023. The city of Guben and the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) invite to 3 p.m. to a think tank in front of the building.

The six-story industrial building, located in the city center directly on the Neisse River, is empty and waiting for more active times. With the help of lectures, workshops and film screenings, the workshop is intended to arouse curiosity and provide networking opportunities. All interested parties from Guben and the region are welcome to come together to consider how this exciting building can be revived.

The initiative arose from the research seminar "New Spaces of Cooperation and Design" at the BTU's Urban Management chair in cooperation with the research project Age Innovations. As part of the seminar, students from the Urban and Regional Planning master's program are examining the question of how places can be strengthened through new cooperative ventures and what is needed to achieve this. And they become active themselves: with on-site research and discussions, with interventions and the initiation of exchange formats, they draw attention to local potentials.

Initial event for the reactivation of Building D, Gubener Wolle
"What is and what can become? A think tank."
Friday, September 15, 2023, 3 p.m.-2 p.m., Alte Poststraße 10, 03172 Guben, Germany.

On the research seminar "New Spaces of Cooperation and Design"
as part of this research seminar, public impulse actions by BTU students took place and will take place over the summer of 2023 in several cities, including the 'StellWerkStatt Erkner' on August 2 and 5. Passers-by and interested parties were able to contribute their comments and ideas on the development of the vacant signal box building and the station area on the station forecourt in the city of Erkner.

Together with the Cottbus city management, the action 'Cottbus Connect' was realized on August 23 as a prelude to the initiation of a student-run community place in Cottbus.
All work results of the seminar including those from the impulse workshop for the re-use of building D of the former Gubener Wolle will be documented and made accessible in a publicly accessible website.
