200-Euro One-Off Payment | EPPSG
For young people who are currently in education, the increased costs for heating, electricity and food are a particular burden. For this reason, the German Bundestag passed the Energy Costs Relief Act to pay an energy price allowance (Energiepreispauschale). Now the time has come: the application platform is ready and the one-off payment of 200 euros can be applied for from 15.3.2023.
Who is eligible to apply?
Students who were matriculated at the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg on 1.12.2022 and who are resident in Germany are eligible.
Eligible to apply:
- Part-time students
- Doctoral students
- dual students
- International students in a Bachelor's, Master's or doctoral programme
- Exchange students and Freemover
- Employed students (in a mini-job, as a working student or in a paid internship) who have already received the energy price allowance for employees (paid by the employer).
- Students who receive BAföG and have already received the allowances for BAföG recipients.
Not eligible to apply:
- Guest students
- Students in certificate programmes
- Students in preparatory study programmes
A detailed description of the requirements can be found at einmalzahlung200.de. The one-time payment of 200 euros is tax-free and will not be taken into account for other social benefits.
Former BTU students who meet the requirements but have already been exmatriculated will be informed separately.
How students apply for the energy price allowance
The application for the energy price allowance is made by the students themselves and can be submitted until 30.9.2023.
There are two ways in which the application can be made:
- Variant 1 »without PIN« is suitable for those who have an ID document with online function or an ELSTER certificate.
- Variant 2 »with PIN« is suitable for those who do not have the documents/functions mentioned in variant 1.
Variant 1 »without PIN«
for students with ID document with online functions or with ELSTER certificate
Step 1: Set up BundID account
The BundID is a user account of the federal government and is used to identify citizens. Without this account, the application is not possible.
You create a BundID account by authenticating yourself using one of the following options:
- via the online ID card functions for the new German ID card
- via the online ID functions for the electronic residence permit
- via the European eID
- via a personal ELSTER certificate

Step 2: Retrieve access code via BTU account
Log in to the BTU account with your access data. The access code will be displayed directly on the startpage from 15.3.2023.

Step 3: Submit application
The application for the energy price allowance can only be submitted online.

You will be guided through the individual steps of the application. You will need your access code, access to your BundID account, personal data (name, place of birth, date of birth) and your account details (only IBAN system in the SEPA area). Use the checkboxes to confirm the accuracy of your information and your eligibility to apply, and then submit the application.
After submitting the application, you can view the status of your application online. The one-off payment of 200 euros will be automatically transferred to the account you specify.
Variant 2 »with PIN«
for students without ID document with online functions and without ELSTER certificate
Step 1: Set up BundID account
The BundID is a user account of the federal government and is used to identify citizens. Without this account, the application is not possible.
You create a BundID account by registering with username, password and email address.

Important:
- Remember your username and password. You will need this data in a later step.
- The data in your BTU account and in the BundID account should match, as this is the only way to ensure a smooth disbursement. Therefore, please check the data in your BTU account. Use this data to create your BundID account. Particularly important is the information on first name(s), last name(s) and date of birth.
Step 2a: Retrieve access code via BTU account
Log in to the BTU account with your access data. The access code will be displayed directly on the start page from 15.3.2023.

Step 2b: Retrieve PIN via BTU account
From 20.3.2023, you will automatically see a PIN next to the access code in your BTU account.
