Prof. Näser heads the department of factory planning and operation at the Senftenberg Campus. She recalls how she had to switch to online teaching within a very short time in March 2020.

"Online operation was something completely new for us, of course. From one day to the next, we had to set up the teaching differently. For some modules, I tried to create videos: How do you build these models, what are the functionalities of the software? That was a comparatively large effort. I also remember that the appointments online didn't work the same way back then as they do today. In any case, we all learned a lot during the pandemic, otherwise we probably wouldn't all be able to handle the various tools so well today.

A big challenge was the exams. I hardly ever took exams in person. But online exams first had to be implemented in a new way, a suitable form had to be found - above all in such a way that the exams were also fair. Technically, everything had to be implemented in the "Moodle" programme. All of us teachers were forced to work much more intensively with these tools.

The most difficult thing for me was the lack of feedback in the lectures and the lack of communication among each other when everyone happens completely online. So I am happy that the summer semester will be back to face-to-face and hopefully more students will be on campus soon! Since we have a lot of technical topics and teach software skills, for example, a face-to-face course is the more appropriate format in my field. However, I would not rule out the online format for some content. I will continue certain things I created while online, such as putting exam results or questionnaires online. Online appointments also make sense, especially when communicating across BTU locations."
